Greek cuisine is rich in authentic flavors and aromas. Like other Mediterranean cuisines, Greek food has a reputation for being heart healthy with its heavy use of olive oil, fish, lean meats, vegetables, herbs and grain, with special characteristics based on pure and unique quality products of the Greek land. Its culinary secrets are: quality fresh ingredients, fine use of flavorings, the famous Greek olive oil and simplicity!
In this tour we’ll have a hands-on cooking experience on some Greek food, test them and get their recipes
Winery – Wine testing. You have no more to say. The god of wine and fun was Greek, Dionysus and first teach Greeks how to make good wine according to ancient myths. We visit one of the vinery regions near Athens and we’ll learn the secret of its production and test the famous retsina.

Welcome to Athens, Greece!

Day 1: Athens arrival (_,_,_)

Arrive to Athens airport; meet our staff at the airport and welcome. Athens city tour. Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of Parliament, Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Evzones in their picturesque uniform, the Hadrian’s Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896. Transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, walk on your own to Plaka, Athens old town, and Monastiraki area. Optional: Dinner at a local tavern with shish kebab and souvlaki dishes

Day 2: FD Winery excursion – Sounio visit (B,_,D)

At mid-day, we get the bus for a tour to Messogia, Attika wineries region, the birthplace of the renowned retsina wine, based on Greek indigenous superior quality variety Savatiano. According to Greek mythology, the god Dionysus taught Ikarios, the King of the area, how to cultivate it and produce wine. Now we will learn how it produced and test it, along with the other Greek variety Roditis, at a winery of the area. We continue with a guided visit to Poseidon temple at Sounio, where we’ll enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets of Greece. And, since we learned that retsina is the ideal partner for seafood and tzatziki we’ll find out it at a fish tavern in the area of Glyfada.

Day 3: Athens Food & Art street tour (B,L,_, L=street food)

A walking guided tour where you will explore the city through our local tastes and the areas with the most amazing graffiti artworks. Departure from your hotel and walk with your guide to Monastiraki. Visit Athens central open-air markets combined with stops for sampling local delicacies (It will be a reach lunch). Feta cheese-one of our famous PDO products, wine, olives, souvlaki, loukoumades (honey dumplings) and bougatsa (sweet hot creamy pie) are some of the most representative Greek tastes and off course not to forget out national spirit, famous outo. You will take a rest in a traditional Kafenio (Greek coffee houses) to enjoy our essential morning habit, the Greek coffee. As the navel of the street food and the popular food markets located in the center of Athens, you will have the chance to explore and admire the most important graffiti artworks. Psyri, Monastiraki, Thisio are the neighborhoods where the graffiti artists have chosen to “bomb” the grey walls with unique art pieces and express with a different way the social messages. Evening walk on your own to Plaka – Monastiraki area and have a drink in one of numerus bars with Acropolis view.

Day 4: Greek food cooking class – Greek night (B,L,D)

Morning walk to cooking place in central Athens market for a four-hour cooking class and socializing session that culminates in a meal. It includes a trip to the local market to shop for ingredients before preparing a mouthwatering five-dish meal in a hands-on class with a local, home cook, wine, soft drink and copy of the recipes cooked. In the evening Athens by night and dinner at a local Greek tavern with live bouzouki music

Day 5: Athens free day – Departure (B,_,_)

Free day for shopping in Ermou st. with its small fascinating shops and explore underground ancient Athens at the metro stations. On the proper time transfer to Athens a/p for your flight back home
Optional. Guided visit to Acropolis, the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens, 5th Century BC, Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion and Parthenon – a place any civilized person has to visit. We complete the visit with the Museum of Acropolis.
