Day 1: Athens – Corinth canal – Voraikos gorge – Kalavryta – Dimitsana (_,_D)

Morning drive to Peloponnese. Short stop for photos at Corinth canal with stunning views. Continue to Diakofto and cross Voraikos gorge with the rack railway. The little train trip (22,4 km – 1 hr) in Voraikos gorge goes parallel to the river and climbs to Kalavrita through bridges and tunnels The maximum inclination in some parts reaches 17.5%. Then visit the Cave of the Lakes with the impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations. During winter the cave is transformed into a subterranean river with natural waterfalls. In the summer, part of the cave dries up revealing the 13 stone basins and dams up to 4m in height. Continue driving trough central Peloponnese to traditional village of Dimitsana for overnight, Dinner at the hotel or a local tavern.

Day 2: Dimitsana – Lousios gorge hikking – Ancient Olympia – Zakynthos island (B,_,D)

Morning visit the beautiful little church, St. Ioannis and the open Air Water Power Museum. Then short bus drive to Ancient Gortys where our Lousio hiking (2hrs) starts. Walk along to Lousios river gorge, through a wooded area, to Moni Prodromou(closed 13.00-17.00) hanging off the cliff (difficult climb). After walking through the forested path we arrive at the ancient Philosophou Monastery. Then driving south we arrive to ancient Olympia where the first Olumpic games took place in 776 BC. Guided visit to archeological site and museum. Continue driving on the west side of Peloponnese we arrive to Kylini port where we take the ferry to Zakynthos island. Dinner at the hotel
Note. Visiting the monasteries, woman need to wear long skirt and men wear long trousers.

Day 3: Explore Zakynthos – Boat trip to Navagio – Careta Careta spots ( (B_,D)
Early morning take a glass bottomed boat tour to Zakynthos fantastic beaches, caves (with stops for swimming) and careta careta turtles spots with a 90 minute lunch break at Laganas).OR take a bus tour to island. In the evening dinner at a local tavern with local music and songs (cantades)

Day 4: Peloponnese castles Pylos, Meyhoni, Koroni – Kalamata (B,_,D)
Today we explore the Peloponnes castles. Ferry to Kilini. Drive to beautiful Pylos with its two castles, where we can visit the Underwater Antiquities museum. The Methoni Castle, in the port town of Methoni, a medieval fortification with the 14 arches stone bridge which connects the castle to the shore and the Koroni castle with the breathtaking view to the sea. Then we drive to Kalamata for overnight. Dinner at a local tavern

Day 5: Travel around Mani – Dyros cave – Vathia – Gythio (B,_,D)

Today we explore Mani’s wild land and its traditional settlements . Drive to Limeni, a fishermen’s village, Areopoli and Diros Cave. Boat trip (1 hr) to Diros cave, across an intricate network of passages and galleries, decorated with gleaming stalagmites and stalactites. We continue to Vathia. The stone-built settlement consisting of 144 buildings grouped into four distinct neighbourhoods. As you walk through the village’s cobbled paths, you realize that each neighbourhood is organised as a self-governing unit, encompassing a war tower, a church, fortified dwellings, private streets, and “dark” meeting points, called “roúyes”. Continue driving to Agerano village, a small seaside settlement with a long sandy beach and old traditional structures and towers and then to Gythio for overnight. Dinner at the hotel or a local tavern

Day 6: Spatra – Mystras – Nafplio (B,_,D)

Morning drive to Sparta and Mystras. Guided visit to Byzantine Mystras, home town of last emperor of Byzantium. Continue to Kosmas village and visit of Elonas Monastery (if it is open). Continue to gorge of Dafnon, Leonidio and arrive to Nafplio. Dinner at the hotel or a local tavern

Day 7: Hydra – Spetses Islands cruise (B,_,D) 

Early departure from hotel to Tolo. Boat departure 08.00 from Tolo for the island of Hydra. It is famous for its picturesque architecture, the vivid nightlife, and cosmopolitan character Then the island of Spetses with its many trees, bays and beaches. Return to Tolo in the afternoon and back to Nafplio . Dinner at a local tavern

Day 8: Epidaurus Theater – Mycenae – Nemea Winery visit – Athens (B,_,D)

Morning drive to ancient open theater of Epidaurus (4th century BC),16000 seats capacity, famous for its acoustic. Continue to Homeric Mycenae (1300 B.C), home town of King Agamemnon, leader of Greeks in the Trojan war Guided visit to see the Lion gate, the royal complex, he tomb of Agamemnon. Drive to Nemea. A region known apart from Hercules myths is famous for its wine. Visit a winery learn the wine history in the region and test various wines. Then drive to Athens. In the evening transfer to Plaka, Athens old town. Dinner at a tavern with Greek dishes, bouzouki music and dances.

Day 9: Athens sightseeing – Departure (B,_,_)

Athens guided city tour. Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and the National Library. Continue on to watching the Evzones in their picturesque uniform and the Presidential Palace. Before ascend to the Acropolis, you will tour the Hadrian’s Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium where is famed for holding the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Then explore the Acropolis, including Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion, and finally Parthenon – a place any civilized person has to visit. Today’s tour completes the visit to new Museum of Acropolis. Then transfer to Athens airport for your flight back home.
