This 8 day/ 7 nights Geo tour to Central and North Greece, to the most beautiful and wild mountaineer part of Greece, is a unique experience for those people who want to combine ancient classical Greek monument sites with the unspoiled and unknown country side of Greece. Start with Athens city tour and Acropolis, continue to must seen sites of Delphi, navel of earth and Byzantine Meteora monasteries. Then driving in the North Greece unspoiled Zagori region with the 46 traditional villages and Vikos gorge, we continue to Macedonia, birth place of Alexander the Great, Thessaloniki, and finally Pelion in the Centaurus mountain. Day 1: Welcome to Athens (_,_D)
Arrival to Athens. Meet our staff at Athens airport, welcome and transfer to your hotel. In the evening walk on your own to Plaka, Athens old town. Dinner at a Greek tavern with souvlaki and shish kebab dishes
Day 2: Athens sightseeing guided tour (B,_,D)
After breakfast pickup from your hotel and start your Athens city tour. Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and the National Library. Continue on to watching the Evzones in their picturesque uniform and the Presidential Palace. Before ascend to the Acropolis, you will tour the Hadrian’s Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium where is famed for holding the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Then explore the Acropolis, including Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion, and finally Parthenon. Today’s tour completes the visit with the new Museum of Acropolis. In the evening walk to Plaka, Monastiraki, Psiri, dinner at a local tavern and later have a drink in one of the numerus bars of the area, with Acropolis view.
Day 3: Delphi – Arachova – Kalambaka (B,_,D)
After breakfast picked up at your hotel and transfer to Delphi. Delphi city was considered by the ancients Greeks to be the omphalos (navel) of the world and holy religious center. Meet your local guide aa archeological site We’ll see the Temple of Apollo, theater, market and the famous Omphalos (navel of the earth) and the Delphi museum with the fascinating sculptures. Next short stop at the traditional village of Arachova. Continue driving north (3hrs) through central Greece to Kalambaka / Meteora. for overnight. Dinner at the hotel-
4th day: Meteora – Metsovo – Ioannina – Monodendri (B,_,D)
Morning short drive to Meteora monasteries. Guided visit to unique Meteora. We’ll see 2 Byzantine Monasteries (too many steps) standing between earth and the sky, atop of huge rocks and containing historical and religious treasures. The first Monastery was founded in the 14th-16th century by a monk from Mount Athos. Then driving towards Pindus Mountain, the 2nd tallest mountain in Greece, an area of extremely beautiful landscapes, and the most diverse mosaic of forest types. We will make a short stop at the traditional village of Metsovo where you can test its delicious smoked cheese. Continue to Ioannina and walk next to lake with beautiful views, craft market with the silversmith shops, in the castle with the Ottoman buildings and the Jewish synagogue (visit upon request), or take a boat ride to the small island of “kira Frossini” with its tragic history. Later we drive to Monodendri, a traditional settlement with old houses and spots with beautiful view, near the Gorge of Vikos for overnight. Dinner with local deliceous dishes at a local tavern
Day 5: Explore Zagorochoria area – Vikos gorge – Voidomatis-Aoos river national park – Konitsa – Kastoria (B,_,D)
After breakfast walk to Agia Paraskevi monastery, vantage point of Vikos gorge, with amazing views of gorge. We will continue to explore the Zagori area with its 46 traditional villages visiting Kipoi village with the famous 3 arch stone bridge, Beloi view point for Vradeto steps, Oxya Vikos gorge Photoshop view point, Papingo village, Konitsa bridge at Aoos river. Then driving through the mountains to Nestorio village and later we arrive to Kastoria town next to the lake, known as a canter of the manufacturing and trading of furs. for overnight. Dinner at a tavern at old city.
Day 6: Loutra Pozar – Edessa waterfalls – Pella – Thessaloniki (B,_,D)
We start our day with a tour around the lake taking the narrow coastal road, between beeches and plane trees. Short stop at Toichio for panoramic views and we continue to Edessa to see the waterfalls and have a coffee. Next guided visit to Pella, capital of Macedonian in the ancient times and home place of Alexander the great. We continue to loutra Pozar. where you can swim at the hot waterfall. Then drive to Thessaloniki for overnight. Dinner at a local tavern at Ladadika with live bouzouki music.
7th day: Thessaloniki city tour – Veria – Vergina – Pelio / Portaria (B,_,D)
Thessaloniki guided city tour, including White tower area, market, Agia Sofia, Agios Dimitrios, Rotonda and Arch of Galerious, Kastra and city walls. Jewish sites visit, Jewish museum – Holocaust Memorial & Synagogue “Yad Hzicaron” upon request. Then drive to Veria – Vergina and guided visit to royal tombs of King Philippe, father of Alexander the Great. Continue to Pelion, Portaria for overnight. Dinner at a local tavern.
Day 8: Explore Centaurus mountain Pelion region – Leonidas monument – Departure (B,_,_)
After breakfast a short walk at Centaurus path (1,4km). A beautiful, unique, rich and thick in trees and herbs and different plants, waterfalls, spring and a sense of magic, ideally for photos. Then drive around Centaurus mountain beautiful Pelion villages to admire the nature in its best. Stop at Volos for tsipouro which is served with local mezes (appetizers) in small plates. Some shopping and we continue to Athens airport for your flight back home. We continue our long way to Athens. Short stop at Thermopiles to see Leonida’s monument and we arrive at the airport late in the evening for your flight back home.
