Welcome to Athens
1st day: On the arrival to Athens a/p our representative will meet you and welcome you at the a/p, share with you information and escort you to your hotel by a private car. The rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Athens.
2nd day: After breakfast you will meet your guide for your Athens Walking Tour. Athens is a city with magnificent neighborhoods, each one with a different architecture signature. Monastiraki, the flea market under the Acropolis hill is the most famous with numerus of shops where you can find from folk art products till second hand furniture. An open-air market with too many alleys with small workshops of shoes, clothes and home accessories..all in a arty way. Greece is not famous for a heavy industry like other European countries but for the notable small family workshops with oriental and Balkan influences. During the tour we will introduce you (it will be a rich lunch!) to the Greek delicacies like olives, amazing cold meats, Greek Jamon and Pastirma, our PDO products as Feta cheese, you will taste the world-known Souvlaki and other Greek dishes in authentic small taverns. You will take a rest in a traditional Kafenio (Greek coffee house) to enjoy our essential morning habit, the Greek coffee and the delicious Loukoumades (honey dumplings) and Mpougatsa (sweet hot creamy pie), the most representative Greek sweet tastes. As the navel of the street food and the popular food markets located in the center of Athens, you will have the chance to admire the amazing graffiti artworks as Psyri, Monastiraki, Thisio and Exarchia are the neighborhoods the graffiti artists have chosen to “bomb” the grey walls unique art-pieces and social messages.
3th day: Today after breakfast your licensed guide will pick you up from the hotel for the Acropolis visit. On the way you will admire the Dionysus Sanctuary and the Dionysus Theater before walk up the hill and visit the significant site of Acropolis and the marvel temple of Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Pedestal of Agrippa. Your will have the chance to delve into Greek ancient history and to enjoy breathtaking views. Rest of the day is free. Tonight walk to Plaka and enjoy a dinner with Greek dishes and local wine under the sounds of the the Greek folk instruments. Musicians will introduce you to Rembetiko, the music which came from Asia Minor and Smyrna after the destruction of Smyrna in 1922. The refugees along with their memories, brought also their culture and music. Songs that they express pain, nostalgia, immigration and love and speak to people’s hearts till our days.
4th day: Breakfast and free time till your private transfer to Athens airport for your home flight. End of the tour.
