Mykonos Island
Mykonos is the most cosmopolitan of the Aegean Islands.
Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world visit this beauteful cycladic island
with its whitewashed houses, churches, windmills and the deep blue painted doors and windows.
The streets are a maze of narrow, winding alleyways overhung with dazzling pink and purple blossoms.
Mykonos offers fine dining, beautiful beaches, spectacular sunsets and an unmatched wild
night life, clubbing and party scene.
The beaches on the south shore of the island are the most popular with fine sand and water
that is perfect for swimming. Ornos and Psarou beaches are the favorite among families, but Psarou is also
ideal for water sports of all kinds, including windsurfing, water-skiing and diving. Paradise and
Super Paradise beaches attract the young and beautiful while the quiet cove at Agrari beach is the place to relax. At night it becomes clear why Mykonos
has the reputation of the most cosmopolitan
and fun life Greek island. The party starts with a
coffee at Little Venice wondering the sunset and continues
through the night at the dance clubs and bars in town or along Paradise
beach until the morning hours.
Mykonos town Chora
Mykonos town is a very beautiful settlement full of
whitewashed houses, verdant balconies,
narrow uphill alleys and innumerable
churches and windmills. Take a walk
and explore the town of Chora, wander the streets
of Little Venice or check out one of the island's most beautefull church,
the Church of Paraportiani, with its conglomeration of four Byzantine chapels
on a cape facing the sea
Mykonos Night Life
A way to see Mykonos at night is simple, just follow your ears.
Music comes from everywhere and as you walk around you'll see
revelers dancing to mostly live mousic. "Hot Spots" change every year,
but notice of nights events are placed on posts, trees,everywhere
Places to visit
Delos Island
Taking a 20-minute boat ride
from Mykonos you reach Delos.
Delos
was
the religious capital of the Ionians in
1,000 BC. According to Greek mythology Leto,
one of Zeus’ lovers, at Mt. Kynthos gave
birth to Apollo, the god of physical
beauty and the fine arts. At Delos you can
visit the excavated ruins of the Lions Terrace(7C BC), the Sacred lake
where Apollo was born,the theatre (3C BC),
and many houses with mosaic floors, like the House of Dolphins,
Cleopatra's house,Dionydos house etc. By 454 BC the
Athenians had overtaken the Ionians, forcing
Delos to pay taxes and provide Athens with
ships. Delos’ greatest period was in the
period of 4th
to 3th century BC, when the tiny
island had a population of 20,000 and was
the chief financial centre and slave market
in the Mediterranean.
Ano Mera
Ano Mera is a
traditional village full of picturesque
churches with red rooftops and whitewashed
windmills. From the settlement of Ano Mera
you can visit a handful of beautiful
beaches.
Beaches
Mykonos attracts thousands of tourist each summer for its superb sandy beaches.
There is a beach for every taste, from cosmopolitan and nude beaches to secluded beaches for the shy!
A very popular beach in the south of the island is Plati Yialos. It is also one of the longest beaches in Mykonos.
From here you can hire a boat to visit other beaches like Paranga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia.
From Mykonos town there are boats leaving in the morning for the beaches Paradise, Super Paradise and Elia.
Nude bathing is accepted on most beaches. Most of the beaches have tavernas and restaurants. If you dont want to get too far from town
you can visit the beaches closest which are Agios Stefanos, Ornos and Agios Ioannis
Platis Gialos

About 4 km from the center of Mykonos town,
a very popular beach on the south side of
the island. It is also one of the longest
beaches on Mykonos.
Here from one can hire a small boat to visit
other beaches like Paradise, Super Paradise
etc.
This beach is a resort by itself, with many
hotels of various categories, restaurants
and small shops. There is a very good
bus service with Mykonos town, till
very late at night
Kalafadi Ag. Anna
The asphalt-paved road continues beyond Ano Mera and within a
distance of 6 km leads us to Kalafatis, which is a marvelous
sandy beach, surrounded by a charming landscape.
In a walking distance from Kalafatis there lie the peaceful
beaches of Ag. Anna and Dimasto, ideal for family holidays
There is frequent bus service from Mykonos town. By getting
there you will find quite a few hotels and restaurants, which
will offer you comfortable accommodation and good seafood.
Kalo Livadi:
Lying 2 km from Ano Mera, the beautiful
beach of Kalo Livadi is the perfect place
for those who look for a peaceful
environment.
There is one hotel and a few rooms to let. There are also two tavernas
on this beach.
Buses run often from Mykonos town to Kalo Livadi.
Elia
Elia, in a distance of about 3 km away from Ano Mera, is a
picturesque seaside, with crystal clear waters, which is worth
visiting. Awarded from the National Beach Association and from
the Blue Flag Association as one of the cleanest beaches in Greece
There is one very good hotel on this beach as well as 2-3 tavernas.
In the area just before Elia beach, there is a
water park "watermania" with lots of water activities.
There is a regular bus service from Mykonos town
Panornos, Ag. Sostis, Ftelia
These beaches lie on the north side of the island,
overlooking the bay of Panormos, which is about 7 km from Mykonos town.
These beautiful beaches with non-organized beach facilities
maintain their natural color and charm attracting many tourists.
Panormos is a sandy beach with crystal clear
waters, two restaurants and a small accommodation facility.
At Ftelia wind-surfers will feel at home whilst it is worth
attending Ag. Sostis' festival on the 6th of September.
Accessibility here is possible by car or taxi. There is nNo public transport
for these beaches, which are suitable for swimming, only when there is no wind.
Paranga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari
Paradise and Super Paradise are the two most charming and
famous beaches, that lie on the south side of Mykonos. One can arrive there
mainly with small caïques that pull out frequently during the day from Platis
Yialos or by an (easy to cover) dirt road that leads to the airport and
continues in the direction of Paraga and Paradise (just before Mykonos airport)
reaching Super Paradise and Agrari, straight after the airport.
At Paranga and Paradise beaches you will find a camping on each of them. Also at
Paraga beach there are two hotels offering accommodation in a friendly atmosphere.
At Super Paradise beach there is no accommodation offered, instead at Agrari
beach there is one hotel and some rooms to let
Villages
Ano Mera
It is the only village in Mykonos. The Ano Mera village is towards the north - eastern coats of the island,
8 km from Mykonos town, Chora. Worth to visit here is the monastry of Tourlianis.
